Chicago Hearing Society (CHS)

In August 2019, CHS became the administrator of iCanConnect for Illinois, providing modern distance equipment at no cost to people with significant hearing and vision loss who meet income guidelines.

Founded in 1916, CHS provides services and programs for people who are Deaf, DeafBlind and Hard of Hearing (DDBHH). CHS merged with Anixter Center in 1997 in order to offer more comprehensive services for people who are DDBHH. CHS’s mission is to provide communication access, hearing and assistive technologies, and support services for people who are DDBHH. Further, CHS provides individuals, most of whom are living at or below the federal poverty level, the help they need and deserve to have the best lives possible.

CHS provides a variety of vital services and programs including:

  • INTERPRETER SERVICES & CAPTIONING Acting as the link between individuals who are Deaf, DeafBlind, or Hard of Hearing who use sign language and hearing individuals who do not know sign language, Chicago Hearing Society (CHS) helps organizations locate and employ qualified sign language interpreters, certified deaf interpreters (CDI), oral interpreters, relay interpreters, and real-time captioning services.
  • AUDIOLOGY SERVICES Licensed audiologists in our Clinic provide a wide array of services that focus on prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of hearing loss. The clinic houses the latest state-of-the-art equipment and is staffed by a caring team.
  • COMMUNITY OUTREACH & ADVOCACY Through various services and programs, CHS staff provide support services, programs, education, training, workshops, mentoring, outreach, and education to not only the Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing Communities but businesses and organizations as well.
