Assistive Technology of Alaska (ATLA) administers iCanConnect for the state.
ATLA is a nonprofit organization specializing in assessments, assistive technology, and technology training services. It has been Alaska’s leading assistive technology (AT) resource center for over 18 years.
In 2012, Assistive Technology of Alaska was tapped to lead the state’s participation in the National Deaf-Blind Equipment Distribution Program, and established akCanConnect, to tie in with the national program. Specialists from the program take the time to assess consumers who have combined hearing and vision loss and determine the best technology options – smartphones, braille devices, tablets and more – to allow them access to distance communications.
[I’m] now able to communicate with family and friends, but also to travel with the technology. Technology that will allow me to interact with my peers and members of the social advocacy organization of which I currently serve…I am truly grateful for the opportunity to receive these benefits from this wonderful program!”
