Peter LaMarca is able to read email with a large screen computer.

A car enthusiast and former exotic lumber salesman, 81-year-old Peter LaMarca uses his desktop computer and iPhone to stay in touch with friends and family.
When Peter and his wife retired from southern California to Nevada in 2013, he was worried about being isolated from friends, family and business associates due to his limited hearing and vision capabilities.

Thanks to iCanConnect, the National Deaf-Blind Equipment Distribution Program, Peter, who has significant hearing and vision loss due to macular degeneration, regularly communicates with his friends and family using the equipment he received at no cost from the program.
“One of the biggest problems as a result of my eyesight loss is seeing type on the computer screen. Through iCanConnect, I received a desktop computer, which has a large screen and better contrast, so it’s easier for me to see enlarged type on the screen. I’m able to email my friends and family back in California and stay in touch with my car enthusiast friends around the world.”
“With my iPhone, I use the voice command feature the most," says Peter. "I’m able to say a name and ask it to make a phone call. It makes it easy to stay in touch with those who mean the most to me.”
