Chicago Hearing Society (CHS)

In August 2019, CHS became the administrator of iCanConnect for Illinois, providing modern distance equipment at no cost to people with significant hearing and vision loss who meet income guidelines.

Founded in 1916, CHS provides services and programs for people who are Deaf, DeafBlind and Hard of Hearing (DDBHH). CHS merged with Anixter Center in 1997 in order to offer more comprehensive services for people who are DDBHH. CHS’s mission is to provide communication access, hearing and assistive technologies, and support services for people who are DDBHH. Further, CHS provides individuals, most of whom are living at or below the federal poverty level, the help they need and deserve to have the best lives possible.

CHS provides a variety of vital services and programs including:

  • Hearing Health Services (Audiology clinic providing comprehensive services, 2 Hearing Aid Banks providing hearing aids to low-income individuals at a fraction of the retail cost, or free if the patient qualifies);
  • Interpreter Services (Licensed sign language interpreters for individuals, businesses, and organizations, and real-time captioning); and
  • Community Outreach and Advocacy (Domestic Violence and Victim Assistance Programs, Youth and Mentoring Programs, Income Tax Return Preparation, Parent Support and Sign Language Classes).
